This category is the same for both festivals, so you can submit a film to either.
* MADFA will evaluate the submissions and select those it considers to be of the highest quality, and ASFF will do the same.
* MADFA will share its selection with ASFF, and the juries of both festivals will deliberate on the official selection.
Once the official selection is announced, it will be the same for both festivals, as will the winner.
* The winning short film will be screened at the April 2027 event in Alexandria and will receive the Golden Hypatia (ASFF's official award). It will also be screened at the May 2027 event in Madrid and will receive the Golden Crown (MADFA's official award).

The Alexandria Short Film Festival is an Oscar-qualifying festival.
By sharing this status with MADFA this year, MADFA also becomes an Oscar-qualifying festival, as it is the same award, judged by the same jury, and in the same way.
The announcement of this partnership was made at the Alexandria Opera House during the April 2026 event, where the ASFF President presented the official Festival statuette to the MADFA Director.
In turn, to formalize the agreement, the MADFA announced the partnership at the Palacio de la Prensa on Gran Vía in Madrid during the May 2026 event, where the Festival Director presented the official MADFA statuette to the ASFF President.
